Trishuli River Water Level Rises in Nepal; Uttar Pradesh and Bihar Urged to Stay Alert

Central Water Commission Says Water Level Is Now Falling, but Close Monitoring of the Gandak River Continues

KUSHINAGAR। India  Authorities in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar have been advised to remain vigilant after a rise in water levels was observed in Nepal’s Trishuli River at Kali Khola, according to a special advisory issued by India’s Central Water Commission.

The Flood Forecast Monitoring Directorate said the increase in the river level has been gradual and that the water level is currently showing a declining trend. The commission also noted that the magnitude of the rise is significantly lower than previous levels.



Despite the improving trend, officials in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, particularly along the India-Nepal border near the Gandak River, have been urged to maintain close surveillance of the situation.

Why the Gandak River Matters

The Trishuli is part of the river system that ultimately contributes to downstream flows in the Gandak basin. Any significant change in water levels upstream in Nepal can therefore become important for communities and authorities downstream.

For eastern Uttar Pradesh, including areas around Kushinagar, continued monitoring of the Gandak-Narayani river system remains particularly important during periods of elevated water levels.

No Immediate Major Flood Threat Reported in the Advisory

The Central Water Commission's advisory does not state that a major flood is currently occurring. Instead, it emphasizes continued alertness and monitoring, while noting that the Trishuli water level is already trending downward.

Residents in vulnerable and low-lying areas should rely on official government updates and follow local administration instructions.
