Narayani River Water Level May Rise; DM, SP Inspect Shivpur and Other Vulnerable Villages

Kushinagar: The Kushinagar district administration has stepped up preparedness following reports of a possible rise in the water level of the Narayani River after heavy rainfall in Nepal's Rasuwa district and information about a glacier-related lake outburst.

District Magistrate Mahendra Singh Tanwar and the Superintendent of Police, along with senior administrative and police officials, conducted an on-ground inspection of Shivpur and other vulnerable villages located across the Narayani River to assess the preparedness for a possible increase in the river's water level.

According to information received by the administration, water discharge from the Valmiki Barrage could potentially reach around 2.50 lakh to 3 lakh cusecs. In view of the possibility, vigilance has been increased in riverside and low-lying areas.

During the inspection, the DM interacted with local residents and appealed to them to remain alert and follow official advisories. Residents were advised to avoid going unnecessarily near the river and to move livestock to safer locations if required.

The administration has placed an SDRF team on alert with necessary rescue and relief equipment. Officials have also been directed to maintain continuous monitoring of vulnerable areas, track changes in the river's water level and take immediate action if the situation warrants.

The DM instructed officials to keep all relief and rescue arrangements operational and maintain a clear evacuation plan for shifting residents to safer locations in case of an emergency. Village-level personnel and local representatives have also been asked to keep residents informed and discourage the spread of rumours.

The district administration said it is maintaining continuous surveillance of the situation and has kept all concerned departments and rescue teams on alert. Officials said necessary preparations have been put in place to respond quickly to any emergency.
