 IMD Issues Orange Alert for Uttar Pradesh

 Heavy to Very Heavy Rainfall Likely Till August 6 Morning

Lucknow, August 5: The India Meteorological Department (IMD), Regional Meteorological Centre, Lucknow, has issued an Orange Alert for several districts of Uttar Pradesh, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning. The warning is valid from 08:30 AM on August 5, 2026, until 08:30 AM on August 6, 2026.

According to the IMD's impact-based forecast, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in parts of Kaushambi, Fatehpur, Kannauj, Kanpur Dehat, Kanpur Nagar, Unnao, Rae Bareli, Saharanpur, Etawah and Auraiya.


Meanwhile, heavy rainfall is also likely in Kushinagar, Deoria, Gorakhpur, Maharajganj, Siddharthnagar, Sant Kabir Nagar, Basti, Ballia, Varanasi, Sant Ravidas Nagar, Prayagraj, Pratapgarh, Sonbhadra, Mirzapur, Chandauli, Banda, Chitrakoot, Gonda, Sitapur, Hardoi, Lucknow, Barabanki, Amethi, Ayodhya, Shamli, Muzaffarnagar, Mathura, Hathras, Kasganj, Etah, Agra, Firozabad, Mainpuri, Shahjahanpur, Badaun, Jalaun, Hamirpur, Mahoba, Jhansi and nearby areas.

The weather department has warned that the spell of intense rainfall may lead to waterlogging in low-lying areas, a sudden rise in river and reservoir water levels, traffic disruptions, poor visibility, interruptions in electricity and civic services, damage to weak structures, and losses to agriculture and property.

The IMD has advised residents to avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rain, stay away from flooded areas, rivers and drains, avoid taking shelter under trees during thunderstorms, and follow official weather updates and instructions issued by local authorities. Farmers have been advised to ensure proper drainage in their fields and avoid applying fertilizers or chemicals during periods of heavy rainfall.
