Barhaj, Uttar Pradesh: Congress spokesperson Ravi Pratap Singh alleged that the Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government was unwilling to address long-standing development issues in Barhaj, including the poor condition of the Mohan Setu bridge.

Singh made the remarks during a press conference at the Congress election office on Friday. He said Congress workers had planned to meet Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in Majhauli Raj on Saturday and submit a memorandum highlighting development-related concerns in the Barhaj Assembly constituency.

However, Singh alleged that police placed him under house detention late Friday night, preventing him from participating in the planned program.


"The government is trying to avoid hearing public-interest issues by detaining opposition leaders," Singh alleged.

He said residents of the Barhaj area have been facing difficulties over several infrastructure issues, including the Mohan Setu bridge, the bus station, railway expansion, and the construction and improvement of the road connecting Sonughat with Barhaj.

Singh also alleged that the government and elected representatives have failed to give adequate attention to these issues. He said Congress workers and local residents would continue to raise the demand for improved infrastructure and development in the constituency.

The Congress leader announced that a "Barhaj Development Dialogue Yatra" would be launched across villages in the Barhaj Assembly constituency to highlight what he described as continued neglect of the region's development.

Several Congress workers and supporters, including Brijesh Singh, Munna Singh, Uttam, Rajesh Gaur, Prabhat Gupta, Uday Shankar, Krishna Singh, Om Prakash Kashyap, Suresh, Ramdev, Nageena and Jitendra Singh, were present during the press conference.
